PAAWS on the Patio
September 9 2007
Starry, starry night ... Board member Elaine Pray had to have glanced up at the perfect evening sky last September 15 and wondered at the success of PAAWS on the PATIO. The event name, called to Elaine's attention by Advisory Board member Sandy Schaffer who had picked up a flyer about an animal fund raiser in Arizona, was perfect for our group and for our event. After six months of intense planning and effort, 136 guests, including 18 PAAWS teams, were enjoying dinner and a silent auction on the patio at King Estates Winery. Glasses clinked, music played, and pets mingled with people on the adjacent grass. A perfect venue, a particularly fulfilling evening.
Since its inception, PAAWS has depended on revenue from garage sales to pay for liability insurance coverage not provided to members by the Delta Society, e.g., participation in Relay for Life, Mall Walks , and other good works not strictly defined as pet therapy. Funds raised from PAAWS on the PATIO have bolstered the treasury and will allow the organization to move forward supporting teams in the very important work we do.
Committee members who worked long hours and gave of their expertise included Advisory Board members, Board members, and Team members. Leigh Anne Jasheway-Bryant, local humorist, acted as MC, donating her wit as well as her time. Platinum Sponsors, so named because of large donations, included the Woodard Family Foundation, Golden Realty, Jerry's Home Improvement, Barry and Linda Meyers, Pacific Source and Eric Watkins. Our thanks in abundance to each and everyone who contributed to the success of PAAWS on the PATIO. Will we do it again? Elaine Pray smiles, nods, and shakes her head affirmatively, then adds, “but not next summer!†The stars in her starry, starry night winked and told her it was alright to rest awhile, to await another perfect evening to raise funds and to honor PAAWS volunteers.
